This Spells Love

my review : ✮✮✮

Look… this book is CUTE! And it is STEAMY! It just didn’t give me butterflies! Romance is always a very personal thing, so let me give you the synopsis, and you decide if you want to add it to your TBR!

Gemma (cutest name ever) is coming off a tough breakup, and after a few shots of tequila, she decides to do a spell where she says, “I wish I never met Stuart!”. She wakes up the next day and realizes she is in an alternate universe where she didn’t meet her ex-boyfriend. Hooray! However, this also means she didn’t meet her (totally hot) BFF, Dax, because they met the same night she and Stuart met. She has a month to get Dax to like her and break this blasted spell. But what if she likes this reality even more than the one she came from?

I LOVED the concept. I dig some magical realism; a spell felt very apropos for the spooky season, and the sister storyline was the standout for me. I have some more thoughts, but they might contain light spoilers, so I will put them below this little line.

Best paired with fall sangria, swipe for the recipe! After enjoying a glass or 3, try your best not to cast any spells, but if you do, can you throw in an “I wish Katie had a walk-in closet” as long as it doesn’t mess up the space-time continuum?

Ok! I know so many of you loved it, but if I am reading Friends to Lovers, I NEED the “I have been in love with you from the day we met” speech. I didn’t get enough of that. There were so many little side comments Dax 1.0 made before she time-traveled that I was really hoping we would get to swoon over him pining for her their whole relationship. I know this lightly happened, but I wanted more. Also, I found some of the dirty talk awkward! I am all for a filthy mouth, but to me, it felt a little clunky! Am I alone? I will for sure read more from this author because so much of this was GOOD!

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • Cute & Steamy Romances

  • Magical Realism
