Never

Never

Jessa Hastings

my review : ✮✮

After reading this book, I’ve come to the conclusion that Jessa Hasting’s books are just incredibly polarizing! As I am sure you are well aware, I want to be a permanent resident in the Magnolia Parks universe. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for Neverland.

This is a Peter Pan retelling where Peter Pan and Hook are super hot, and Wendy’s 18-year-old great-granddaughter Daphne is the object of their affection.

Daphne and Peter remind me of MP’s BJ and Magnolia, except without any of the history or redeeming characteristics (and let’s be honest, they don’t have that many redeeming characteristics)! Peter Pan is such a dick, I just couldn’t spend one moment getting googly-eyed over him. Captain Hook was more my speed, yet he had an accent that I really had a hard time comprehending. Also, he was a dick 50% of the time. The fantasy element of this book was hard to follow for me, and Neverland left my head spinning a bit. I just...couldn’t picture it? It might be a Katie problem!

Also, it’s my understanding that a bit of this book is being rewritten due to some racist language? Not to mention Daphne was 17 for 90% of the book, and Hook’s obsession with her turning 18 was freaking creepy.

The moral of the story: all the same toxicity of MPU but not rooted in reality, which made me feel like I took some sort of hallucinogen. As I said, this book is polarizing, and many love it, so don’t let me sway you! Just one girl who can never look at Peter Pan the same way again.
