The Academy
The Academy
Elin Hilderbrand and Shelby Cunningham
my review : ✮✮✮✮
As an Elin STAN, I greeted the news that she was coming out with a fall novel set at a prestigious boarding school with absolute GLEE. I love an academic setting, and while I’m accustomed to reading Elin’s descriptions of the island of Nantucket, I was excited about something new! Plus, we had the added bonus of her daughter as a co-writer! How many books have I read where the subject matter is of a different generation, but the characters don’t feel convincing? Too many to count! Shelby added conviction to this story, and hopefully, this will mean a whole new generation of readers will be introduced to Elin’s books!
Alllllll this to say, I was very excited for this book, and it didn’t disappoint. It *is* set in a boarding school, but the subject matter is anything but YA. The book follows the teachers, students, and staff of the prestigious Tiffin Academy boarding school and tells a tightly woven story dripping in drama, edged with a cast of characters so flawed, endearing, and entertaining you’ll want to do nothing but read the book. The book kicks off at the beginning of the school year and is split into sections by month. Now is the time to start, as the back-to-school energy is strong at the beginning of this book.
I had so much fun reading about Tiffin Academy. I love that Elin did something new, I cannot wait for the sequel (out next year!), and I am ready to see this on my big screen (rumor has it the rights were snatched up in a very exciting bidding war; listen to Elin’s podcast for more details!).
Please, if you’ve read the book, chime in with who you are casting as East. Is he Harry Styles? Jacob Elordi? ‘90s Leo?
