Far and Away

Far and Away

Amy Poeppel

my review : ✮✮✮✮✮

This book is a complete and utter delight!

Two women decide to do a—quite last minute—house swap following some major changes in their lives. Lucy lives in Dallas, and her son made a mistake that has led to them being social pariahs (and that is truly the least of their worries). Greta’s husband just accepted a prestigious position at a hospital without even telling her, and they are uprooting their lives in Berlin and moving for a year. In a haze of martinis and poorly translated German, the women hastily decide to switch homes.

You might hear “house swap” and have visions of The Holiday (understandable! It is a phenomenal movie and the only story of house swapping I’ve ever heard), but this whole story is in a league of its own. This book is laugh-out-loud funny, heartwarming, and has a hefty dose of armchair travel mixed in.

I often get requests for books that are great escapes, and I would add this book to the top of the list. From the first chapter, I was hooked, and sometimes it is a relief reading about other people’s problems (don’t worry, their problems are not so stressful that you will start stressing on their behalf).

Simply put, this was a great book. I cannot wait for Amy Poppel’s next!

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • Armchair travel

  • A laugh-out-loud funny book
