Bad Summer People

Bad Summer People - Emma Rosenblum
my review : ✮✮✮
Rich people behaving badly! You’ll feel like the ultimate voyeur as you peek into the lives of the ridiculously wealthy inhabitants of Salcombe, a small Fire Island community riddled with all the ridiculous drama you’d come to expect in an episode of Desperate Housewives. It’s an escape to a picturesque little summer haven brimming with drama. Imagine if Elin Hilderbrand focused a book on her antagonists.
All that to say, I had a ton of fun reading this book. Everyone was unlikeable, and I found it simultaneously unsatisfying and wickedly entertaining. I was immersed in the story and constantly looked forward to picking it up. If you’re debating reading it, do you enjoy eavesdropping on people’s conversations from time to time? If so, I think you’ll enjoy all the naughtiness of this. To me, the mindless scandalous fun made this really the ultimate beach read.
This story follows the wealthy inhabitants of Salcombe during one summer. Everyone’s lying, stealing, and cheating while wearing $1,500 tops while doing it (yes, I looked up the Hawaiian print Valentino shirt). If you like your book to have morals, skip this!
This book is a bit reminiscent of The White Lotus, down to the dead body found on page one. If you’re a fan of the show, I think you’d enjoy this.
On one of the character’s “Welcome to Summer” parties, she makes (and then plys everyone with) watermelon margaritas from the NYTimes, so obviously, it’s the perfect companion to this book!
you’ll love this book if you love:
