The Heir Apparent

The Heir Apparent

Rebecca Armitage

my review : ✮✮✮✮

I enjoy a book about royals, so this one is right in my sweet spot. I think you need to have a healthy bit of interest in all things royalty to really enjoy this book. But if you do, get ready to immerse yourself in the royal world of drama and political maneuvering. Less fluffy and a bit darker than I was expecting, but entertaining nonetheless!

We meet Lexi Villiers when she is in the middle of her medical residency in rural Australia. On New Year’s Day, she’s greeted by a helicopter landing on the campsite where she’s ringing in the new year. It’s her grandmother’s right-hand man. Her dad and brother died in a freak skiing accident, and it’s time to go home. She’s next in line for the throne. Lexi has a choice: does she forsake the crown and go back to her life in Australia, or does she become the next queen?

I was properly warned that this isn’t quite a romance but has a bit of it sprinkled in. It’s a fascinating look into this fictional royal family, and the unique way the author told the story made it impossible for me to put down.

I found the passage of time to be a bit slippery in this book, which may be why it felt so long to me, but overall I really enjoyed it!

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • Royal Dramas

  • The Royal We

  • Political Intrigue
