Atmosphere

Atmosphere - Taylor Jenkins Reid

my review : ✮✮✮✮

Taylor Jenkins Reid can always deliver a gut punch. I read this book on a 4-hour flight and was the crazy lady in 10D, blubbering from time to time. Whenever I read a book that makes me feel so deeply, I always take a moment to pause and marvel at the power of storytelling.

TJR is a master storyteller. Her books are so wildly different, but the commonalities are what make me adore her as a writer. Her books leave me more curious and empathetic toward the human condition. This book deals with a very technical subject matter (from what I’ve seen, her take on the space shuttle program is quite accurate), so some of the jargon can leave your head spinning. But once you get used to it, you’ll enjoy it and probably learn a ton.

This story is about one of the first women to join NASA in the 80s. When we meet her, she is CAPCOM, meaning she’s the only person able to communicate with the astronauts in space. She also happens to be madly in love with one of the astronauts on that flight, but no one knows.

This book should be paired with a Coors Light, because there are a lot of different love stories in this book, but one of them is Joanne falling in love with that cold brand of beer. I am actually mixing up a cocktail that I’m calling “Stardust,” (it’s just a purple French 75!) and you can swipe for the recipe.

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • TJR

  • An epic romance
