It's a Love Story
It's a Love Story - Annabel Monaghan
my review : ✮✮✮✮✮
Now, this is a love story.
I felt like I was going to burst into tears while reading this book, not because it’s dark or even deals with overly heavy subject matters, but just because it really makes you feel something. Last week, I rambled about how some books really make you think about the art of storytelling. They make you marvel at the fact that a fictional book could make you feel so deeply. This often comes up when I am talking about historical fiction that takes place during very hard times, stories that involve incredibly high-stakes, life-or-death situations, or other BIG stories. Basically, stories that have a tiger and an explosion (not literally; this reference will only make sense if you’ve read this book). This story is different. It is a quiet (albeit loud, given the boisterous Irish family that has a starring role in the pages and in my heart) love story. It is a laugh-out-loud funny love story. It is a love story that feels real.
This is the most realistic enemies-to-lovers story I’ve ever read. It is the most deliciously sexy, tension-filled, non–chili pepper book I’ve ever read. I had first-date butterflies reading this. Everyone should be talking about this book!
I want to eat a berry pie made by Reenie and sleep on a bunk bed and get caught in the rain with Dan! I want to burst into tears that it’s over. You might worry that I am overhyping this book. I have, in the past, worried I am ruining my readers’ experience with a book if I set the expectations too high. But then I just, in this moment, decided I am who I am, I feel very big feelings about this book, and I feel very lucky to live this life where I get to tell you guys how much I love it.
If you want to read a romance this summer, pick this one up.
you’ll love this book if you love:
Enemies-to-lovers grounded in the real world
A proper summer romance
Storytelling that makes you emotionally invested
my favorite quote:
“This feels like wealth, I think. This is the thing you save up for. You live your whole life so that you can be surrounded by too many people in too small of a room and tell the story of how it all happened.”
