Summer in the City

Summer in the City - Alex Aster

my review : ✮✮✮

This book is truly a modern-day fairy tale. I loved all the NYC sights and sounds. Also, the premise of one perfect summer spent fake-dating a billionaire was a ton of fun.

This story is about Elle Leon, a successful screenwriter living in LA who is forced to return to her least favorite city, NYC, to complete a screenplay for her next big box-office hit. She is under a ton of pressure to deliver this script by LDW, but is having serious writer’s block. However, things take a turn when she checks into the bougie condo she is house-sitting for the summer and learns that her neighbor is Parker Warren, tech billionaire and (almost) one-night stand. She hasn’t stopped thinking about him; he has no recollection of her but loves that she doesn’t care about his money. They decide to fake-date for the summer and visit every location she has to incorporate into her movie.

OK, so not loving this book is REALLY off-brand for me. There were definitely moments I loved! I found the banter to be excellent at times! It’s just by the end, everything felt too over the top. I like my contemporary romances a littttttttle bit rooted in reality. The leading man was just… too dreamy! It was, like, unbelievable? And I know you’re probably thinking, “Katie! You read and love books about fae and vampires! How can this be unbelievable!?” I get it! Ugh, I hate not loving a book. If you loved this, I can totally see why. If this wasn’t for you, ditto! If you’re like, “Katie, should I read it?” and armchair travel to NYC and dating a billionaire sounds up your alley, give it a whirl!

As always, I am just one girl with an opinion! The cover, end pages, and sprayed edges were so stunning that I am glad I own it.

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • Fake dating

  • Billonaire romance

  • The perfect love interest
