my review : ✮✮✮
I enjoyed my time with this sweet and nostalgic love story.
Cassidy is a writer for the popular online women’s publication, Siren. When her grandmother gives her a 1950s dating guide on “How to Hook a Husband” after an ugly breakup, she decides to test out the retro advice on unsuspecting men for a story. When she meets Jack Bradford, the chauvinistic creator of Brawler (think: Barstool), and he asks her on a date, she decides to scrap her initial plan and use those tips on him for an epic takedown story. Her brilliant plan gets turned on its head when she spends more time with Jack and realizes she actually… likes him?
So many fun pop culture and retro film references are sprinkled throughout this book, making it a true treat. I was entertained, and Jack had a few one-liners that gave me butterflies.
The drink pairing for this book is an absolute no-brainer: find the best old-fashioned in your city and savor that, baby!
