One Golden Summer

One Golden Summer - Carley Fortune

my review : ✮✮✮✮✮

I had a smile plastered to my face throughout this entire book. Charlie Florek is so firmly my ideal book boyfriend, it is like Carly Fortune dipped her pen right into my brain. I quite literally couldn’t think of a better time to read this than right this second (unless, of course, you have a lake trip on the horizon; in that case, save it!). Take a dip in Barry’s Bay, trust me, you’ll never want to leave.

Alice is coming off a heartbreak and feeling a little rudderless. When her grandma falls and breaks her hip and needs some cheering up, Alice whisks her off to a picturesque cottage in Barry’s Bay, the location of one glorious summer from Alice’s childhood. As soon as they arrive, Alice is knocked off balance (literally and figuratively) by the dreamy (and uber flirty) Charlie Florek, who turns her whole summer upside down.

To put it simply: I had so much fun reading this book. There is nothing more romantic to me than a love story set on a lake. Long, hot days, chilly nights, screened-in porches, driving fast on speedboats—this whole book is summer bottled up. Watching Alice exhale during her summer of fun and seeing these two stumble their way to love was so refreshing and fun, and honestly had me wanting to approach my own summer with a similar kind of joy. I feel like I am falling more in love with Carley’s writing with every book she releases.

This book is the sequel to Every Summer After, Carley Fortune’s debut novel. You don’t have to read that to understand this, but I really, really encourage you to.

As a tribute to Nan, I feel I have to enjoy this book with a glass of scotch with a splash of water, but if I wanted to channel Alice, I’d pour a glass of red wine and maybe crack a hunk off of Nan’s special chocolate!

I was motivated to create a One Golden Summer-inspired bucket list- swipe to check it out and use it as a guide to make your summer a little bit more joyful à la Charlie Florek and Alice Everly!

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • A dreamy book boyfriend

  • A summertime lake romance

  • Carley Fortune (hehe)
