Nora Goes Off Script

Nora Goes Off Script

Annabel Monaghan

my review : ✮✮✮✮✮

This book enraptured me from the moment I first picked it up, like the biggest romance novel breath of fresh air.

Let me start by saying, I love our heroine, Nora Hamilton. She’s a divorced mom of 2 who writes romance screenplays for (essentially) the Hallmark Channel. After her divorce, Nora writes a raw screenplay that is a departure from her usual happily-ever-after fodder, and when the screenplay gets made into a movie, former sexiest man alive Leo Vance gets cast in the role of her ex-husband. The movie is filmed at the adorable, picturesque teahouse in the backyard of Nora’s house for 3 short days. The morning after shooting wraps and the crew leaves, Nora finds Leo on her porch with a half-empty bottle of tequila and a proposition. He'll pay a thousand dollars a day to stay for a week. Nora could use the cash and is moved by the desperation in Leo’s eyes (hello, who wouldn’t be moved by Hollywood’s leading man!). I will leave it there and let you devour this one at your convenience.

This feels like a real love story (albeit, starring Hollywood royalty). To me, this is what the movie Home Again wishes it were. Brimming with love and humor, I feel like Nora is a dear friend I know in real life.

Some may find this story far-fetched and unbelievable, but the hopeless romantic in me knows that anything can happen!!

Best paired with good wine (& fluffy luxurious towels!! & high thread count sheets!!)!!! May I suggest a cold bottle of Sancerre?

P.S. For my broken-hearted The Idea of You Fans, this book is basically like “what would happen if Hayes grew up and was a little more age-appropriate.”

Edit!! Just mentioning The Idea of You has everyone in a tizzy!!! Which I should have expected because it’s the best ever!!!! But this is much less emotional/ very different story… just some similarities 💘

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • Home Again 2.0

  • The Idea of You

  • Forced Proximity

my favorite quote:

“But time and sunshine bring growth, and life unfolds just the way it’s supposed to.”
