These Summer Storms

These Summer Storms - Sarah MacLean

my review : ✮✮✮✮

I think it’s important to know that I started this book ready for a dark and twisty Inheritance Games between unlikable characters. The romance!? A (very pleasant, supremely sexy, hot as hell) SHOCK. There’s something to be said for going in blind (I realize the irony, since I’m now totally preventing you from doing just that. I hope you’ll forgive me). Allll this to say: I loved this book. Like, LOVED this book.

Alice Storm hasn’t talked to her family in five years. When we meet her, she’s returning to her billionaire father’s private East Coast island for his funeral. Alice plans to promptly get in and get out and not get sucked into the inevitable Storm family drama, and all of that is well and good until her father’s elaborate last family game is revealed… his inheritance game.

If you’re looking for all the drama that comes from rich children and obscene wealth and private islands with a pretty fabulous romance woven in, you’re going to love this. I love the way this author tells a story! Maybe a bit verbose at times, but I welcomed it (I am a bit nerdy in that I like looking up a new-to-me word and filing it away for later use, although since I am reading with my eyeballs, I will inevitably butcher the pronunciation). It was exactly what I was looking for. If you are looking for a cast of extremely likable characters, keep on walking! You’ll be shocked! And appalled! And totally enraptured with this wacky family, if you’re anything like me!!

I am pairing this book with the Olive Oil Basil Limoncello Sour that I stumbled upon on @join_jules’ Instagram. The matriarch of the family loves her gin, I love my limoncello, and it’s about time I get over my fear of egg whites in cocktails. It also seems like something the Storm family would make someone whip up for them. They’d, of course, call it the Storm Sour and take sips between taking swipes at each other. Speaking of swipes—swipe for the recipe!

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • Inheritance Games

  • A surprise romance plot in a thriller!

  • Going in blind
