Broken Country

Broken Country

Clare Leslie Hall

my review : ✮✮✮✮✮

This book basically grabbed me by the lapels and held on to me until I was done with it. I thought the way the author told the story was just totally brilliant: multiple timelines, short chapters, utterly captivating.

Set in rural England in the 1960s, our story starts with the death of a farmer. We don’t know the who, what, or how; we just go back to the beginning and twist and turn our way through the decisions that set these characters on a heartbreaking collision course.

Brimming with loss and longing, it feels impossible not to be totally swept up in this story. Heartbreaking and heavy, but so gripping. I will be thinking of this story for a long time.

No drink pairing for this one, although there was a Campari & lemonade mentioned that had my interest piqued. This would make an excellent book club book. There is so much to discuss, it will be one of those book clubs where you actually talk about the book!
