The Ghostwriter

The Ghostwriter

my review : ✮✮✮✮
What an atmospheric and unsettling book! Well told, with an interesting plot that kept me guessing until the end. An excellent summer thriller to close out the season with.
Olivia is a talented ghostwriter, whom we meet when her career has stalled out. Desperate for a new project so she can keep her house, she agrees to ghostwrite a book for Vincent Taylor. Vincent is a famed author and also the subject of much speculation, as both of his siblings were brutally murdered in their teens back in the 70s, and there has always been suspicion that Vincent was somehow involved. Vincent also happens to be Olivia’s estranged father! Olivia is shocked to learn that Vincent wants Olivia to write an account about what really happened to the Taylor siblings on that fateful night.
This story is well told and twisty. Alternating POVs and quick-moving chapters make it hard to put this one down. Not overly graphic, but there is hard-to-read subject matter. At one point, Olivia’s editor describes the book she’s writing as being “very atmospheric. And yet, sort of heartbreaking too,” and that’s exactly how I feel about this story. I enjoyed it and think thriller lovers should add it to their TBR!
