Samantha Downing likes writing about twisted couples. While her last one was a hit for me, unfortunately, this one was a miss. I've read (and loved) stories where you're rooting for the "bad guy,"… but this is not one of them. Honestly, the couple was not as twisted as advertised, nor were they smart enough to make the story interesting. I did find the writing style interesting and addictive, which is why I finished the book.

This story is about Ivy and Wes, a toxic couple that's been on and off for 10 years, and when it's good, it's good, but when it's bad, all bets are off. Everyone in their lives has been urging them to be done with each other once and for all, but they can't seem to stay away. They're pulled together by a love they've never experienced elsewhere and a secret they've never shared with anyone else. When we meet the couple, they've decided once again to get back together, but this time it will be different. It's clear that this time it's different because instead of battling each other, they have a common enemy, a detective who has decided to take a look into Wes and Ivy's past.

Honestly, the synopsis makes it sound better than it is. It was not for me!
