Kill Your Darlings
Kill Your Darlings
Peter Swanson
my review : ✮✮✮
I really loved Peter Swanson’s The Kind Worth Killing. It’s one of my favorite thrillers! This book hooked me from the blurb: “A dazzlingly clever murder mystery, told backwards”... but really, this is not a murder mystery since you know who the murderer is from the beginning!
This book is about a husband and wife with a myriad of secrets they keep from the world and some they keep from each other. We meet the wife in the present day and learn quite quickly that she wants to kill her husband. A murder takes place, and the book tells the story of their relationship backwards to understand how we got here. Less of a thriller and more of a rumination on marriage and aging, it still kept me on the edge of my seat with the gripping writing.
There are not many books that I finish and am compelled to start again immediately, but this is one of them. This was a like, not a love, for me, but I really appreciated the unique way this story was told and am really interested to see it on the big screen. I think it will translate well and might be even better than the book!
So much booze was drunk in this book that a pairing almost seemed in bad taste… but a Tom Collins was mentioned, and I’ve never had one, so pair we must!
