Helpless

Helpless

Jessica Knoll

my review : ✮✮✮✮

This book is batshit crazy. It is an erotic thriller!!! It’s dark and twisted and bonkers. It is not for everyone, and I think you can pretty quickly decide if it’s for you when you read the words “erotic thriller.” Does that inspire intrigue or fear? Follow your heart, my friend!!

This book follows a famous actress, Faye, who is headed back to her college campus for the funeral of her beloved mentor. She knows she’s destined to cross paths with her ex-boyfriend, who she hasn’t seen (nor stopped thinking about) since college. What she doesn’t expect is to wake up after being drugged and kidnapped in his remote cabin.

I really love how Jessica Knoll writes. I also love how her books are so different from one another, but I always find them to be difficult to digest yet impossible to put down. The throughline in her books seems to be female rage, although I am at risk of overly simplifying.

This story is dark and biting, with an ending that leaves you texting your friend, telling her she has to read it ASAP so you can discuss. Completely bingeable, the kind of book that’s always more interesting than what’s going on in your phone.

You’re either going to love it or hate it, and I experienced both emotions while reading it. I loved how I couldn’t put it down, and that’s why it’s getting four stars from me!

P.S. I pictured Jacob Elordi as Henry. He’s all tall and brooding and can’t fit through a doorway.

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • Tell Me Lies

  • Wuthering Heights (the movie with Margot Robbie)

  • Books by Carola Lovering
