Given we all loved Jennifer Hiller’s last book, Little Secrets, this next thriller was one of the Beach Reads & Bubbly community’s most highly anticipated books of the year, and I had been waiting with bated breath!

I have to preface this review by saying that I am really picky when it comes to my thrillers. I am too wimpy for scary movies, but I really like a twisty thriller that stumps me throughout the book and leaves me on the edge of my seat. I love psychological thrillers, but can’t stomach too much gore and am easily disturbed.

I just couldn’t take the pedophilia/child abuse in this book. I neither read nor write trigger warnings because, especially in thrillers, there are always SO many, but this book is an exception. I finished, but could barely stomach it. It honestly felt cruel to make my brain read this book.

A good story, but when a friend asks for a thriller recommendation, I think I would leave this off the list.

All that to say, this book was Jennifer Hiller’s typical style: sharp writing, layered characters, and satisfying endings. If you can stomach a lot of very dark and disturbing content, this is for you.

With the unwanted media attention now surrounding her, it's only a matter of time before someone from her long-hidden past recognizes her and destroys the new life she's worked so hard to build, along with any chance of a future.
