Crescent City Series

Sarah J. Maas

my review : ✮✮✮✮

I’ve finished Crescent City!!!!!!! How does one even rate these books? If you want to see how I felt 45% of the time, slide to slide 2. The other 45% of the time, I was slide 3, then the other 10% I was slide 4.

This was a wild ride!!! It’s less of a ride and more of a journey in the sense that it took me as long as it would have taken to travel across the Atlantic in the 1800s. That kind of journey!!

Even though there is totally a lot of romance all over the place, this felt more fantasy-forward!! And I learned I enjoy fantasy, but I am not, like, rabidly obsessed with fantasy, ya know!?

This book does have the most badass, killer leading lady I have ever met. When I grow up, I want to have a fraction of the gumption of Bryce Quinlan!

Here are my high-level thoughts on the books without spoilers (please keep in mind I wrote these right after finishing each book 👀👀👀👀👀👀):

Book 1: I was slide two for the majority of this book. LOTS of world building!! LOTS of POVs! NO RHYSAND! LOL! Less romantasy, more fantasy crime with scary demons? Ending is great.

Book 2: Once again, my head is spinning, but that ending… Worth ALL the creepy mystics and the river monsters! THE SCREAM I SCUMPT (about the last sentence of the book, not the mystics, although they do haunt my dreams).

Book 3: This was actually 3 books in one. SJM makes you put in the work, but this was probably the most satisfying and fun of all to read, probably just because I knew what the hell was going on. Kind of. Unpopular opinion, but I think it wrapped up the series nicely and we don’t need another book!!! What more is there to say?**

To answer the biggest FAQ: Do you have to read this before reading ACOTAR 6? I need to read ACOTAR 6 and report back! I have no clue!! I feel like SJM wouldn’t make it a prerequisite, though!

**Unless something crazy happens in ACOTAR that has CC ramifications.

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • ACOTAR

  • TOG

  • Fantasy
