Silver Elite
Silver Elite - Dani Francis
my review : ✮✮✮✮
I had so much fun reading this wickedly sexy dystopian romance. If you like the romantasy books that I like — specifically Blood & Ash and Fourth Wing —you’re going to enjoy this! It has the war college vibes of Fourth Wing and the spice level of Blood & Ash. It’s not a “monsters & fae” romantasy, so the world-building is not too hard to find your footing on. It’s enemies-to-lovers with a leading man who isn’t always telling her to be careful—refreshing!
Wren is a Mod, which means she has special skills that she has spent her whole life hiding. After one small mistake with huge ramifications, she finds herself training for the most elite squad on the continent—and she is training for her enemy. Wren is a badass, self-sufficient leading lady who trusts literally no one. But damn, is her captain (and mortal enemy) looking good!
Despite the size, this book is a quick read that leaves you desperate for the next—release date TBD! I found the romance did not punch me in the gut as much as some other romantasies (👀 ACOTAR), but nonetheless, I was totally obsessed with Cross + Wren.
There’s a lot of talk about this book online! My thoughts…
1. Dani Francis is a pseudonym. Allegedly, this is a NY Times bestselling author writing under a pen name. The internet thinks it’s a romance author who is trying something new. So many people thought it was Elsie Silver that she had to put out a statement saying it wasn’t her! I at first thought it was a man, but after reading it, I think it has to be a fairly established female romance writer. I am excited to see who it is, and honestly, I love the mystery of it all! It adds to the book’s allure.
2. The actual book is getting some negative feedback, as many readers expect more in the form of social commentary and some greater message as it pertains to the world we live in today when they pick up a dystopian book. This is not that. This is a high-stakes romance novel set against the backdrop of a dystopian society. Don’t go in expecting 1984 or Fahrenheit 451! Go in expecting a hot shower hookup scene 🤪
