What a gripping, well-told story. I feel like for a book to pack this much of an emotional punch, it has to be a tome, but this managed to do it in 300ish pages!

This story follows two Iranian women who form an instant friendship as young girls that deepens over time as the country experiences great political unrest and monumental change.

I am embarrassed by how little I know about Iran, and I learned so much about the lion women who fight to this day for rights and freedoms. The book is eye-opening and alternates between being completely heartbreaking and hopeful.

If I were to host a bookclub for this book, I would want to make chickpea cookies because I was interested in them the minute they were mentioned! Our drink, of course, would be Canada Dry (IYKYK). This book is a few years old, so I am sure many of you have read it. If so, what did you think?
